Background

The Mittelstandsbund’s existing website had grown significantly in both functional and technical terms. In addition to traditional editorial content, there were numerous member-related functions, customised permission and access controls, and complex content structures. These could only be further developed to a limited extent and made both day-to-day editorial work and functional enhancements more difficult.

The aim of the relaunch was to create a scalable platform that combines public content, member areas and premium features within a consistent system architecture.

Challenge

  • Relaunch of a complex association platform in terms of both content and functionality
  • Implementation of member, guest and premium access (DMB+)
  • Migration of large volumes of articles, users and media
  • Integration of numerous modules: news, events, profiles, benefits programme
  • Editorial flexibility whilst maintaining system consistency

Solution

Q3i implemented the relaunch using TYPO3 as an enterprise CMS. The focus was on a modular architecture that clearly separates the target groups – guests, members and DMB+ users – whilst still serving them within a single shared platform.

Existing functions were technically modernised and specifically enhanced with new modules and extensions.

Key features

Content and Editorial

  • Modular page and content elements
  • Subject areas and areas of expertise
  • Advanced news layouts and filtering mechanisms

Member and premium features (DMB+)

  • Restricted access to content and events
  • Guest access with time-limited use
  • Premium labelling via categories and permissions
  • Benefits portal based on TYPO3 Commerce

Events

  • Filterable lists and detailed views
  • Online registration with additional fields
  • CSV exports, iCal downloads and email notifications

Personalisation

  • ‘My Profile’ section with interest-based control
  • Personalised content: articles, events, recommendations

Conclusion

Following the relaunch, public content, members’ areas and premium features will all run on a single TYPO3 platform. The modular content architecture, the membership features and the smooth migration will ease the workload for both the editorial team and the organisation.
