Background
The bilstein group switched its HR software provider from Talentsoft to GuideCom. The job vacancies were already deeply integrated into the company website: featuring job teasers, filter lists, detailed pages and supplementary content from TYPO3. The task was to switch providers. The existing job portal was to remain operational during the transition and subsequently work with the new HR system.
Challenge
Talentsoft and GuideCom provide data structured differently in terms of both technology and content. API type, field names, categories and mappings could not be transferred directly. The existing API client and the React application could therefore not simply be switched over to a new endpoint. During the transition phase, the application had to be able to process data from both providers. Contact persons, locations and other media were to continue to be managed in TYPO3 independently of this.
Role of Q3i
We analysed both data models and revised the TYPO3 extension `q3i_talentsoft`. To this end, we developed an API client for GuideCom and adapted the server-side processing of job advertisements. At the same time, we replaced the previous React app with a Vue app. The application form was provided by GuideCom.
Solution
The TYPO3 extension serves as an integration layer between the HR system and the website. It retrieves job vacancies, prepares the data for the front end and supplements it with mappings from the CMS. To facilitate the transition, the application was configured to display vacancies from both TalentSoft and GuideCom together.
Editors can pre-filter contract types, locations and job categories in TYPO3, as well as limit the number of entries. The Vue application offers:
- compact job teasers for the homepage
- a filterable table for regular job vacancies
- a dedicated view for apprenticeships and work placements
The detail pages link the job information from GuideCom with contact details, location information, images and videos. This means that frequently changing job data remains within the HR system, whilst supplementary content is managed in the CMS.
The GuideCom application form is embedded as an iFrame on the careers page. This ensures that the processing of application data remains within the HR system.
Result
The job portal was migrated from Talentsoft to GuideCom without rebuilding its integration with the company website. TYPO3 remains the central hub for configuration and supplementary content. The integration layer consolidates data from the HR software with content from TYPO3 and supplies teasers, filter lists and detail pages.
Conclusion
The revised TYPO3 extension and the new Vue front end separate the job portal from the HR provider’s data structure. This made it possible to switch providers whilst retaining the layout and editorial functions of the careers page.
